About MS

Hi, I'm Melody! MS in MS stands for the initials of my first and last name (Melody Sowden) and the state I currently live in (MiSsissippi). I am a transplant from Lancaster County, PA (Amish country). I lived there until 18 when I moved to Tulsa, OK to do an internship at Church on the Move where I met my husband in 2004 (we didn't start dating until four years later). I moved back home and went to a community college for two years before transferring to Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL and graduated with my BS in Psychology with minors in Christian Counseling and Bible. My now husband, Troy, proposed two days after I graduated and we got married in November 2009. In September 2014, we welcomed our first born, Judah Washington, in our lives. Then 17 short months later in March 2016, we welcomed our sweet baby girl, Alexa Brielle, into our home. We also have a baby, Micah Taylor, who left my womb to go to Heaven in September 2018. We are expecting our fourth baby in January 2020!

Troy is the lead pastor of our church, CityChurch for Olive Branch. I work very part time doing accounts payable and payroll at a small company in Memphis. I do administrative work and am in charge of all social media accounts for our church.

This blog started off chronicling my adventures into wife hood as I experimented with couponing, crafting, cooking (before we got married, I only knew how to make toast), and gardening. Now, it's evolved into sharing my life experiences as a wife, pastor's wife, mom, and follower of Christ. I post sporadically and just share from my heart.

I blog "...because the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart." Luke 6:45

Random facts about me:

1) I'm obsessed with chapsticks and lip balm. I have 100+ and it doesn't seem like enough. My favs are some discontinued lip balms from Gap (I know, of all places) from 2013. The absolute best are Fresh Sugar but they are like $22 more than I would spend on one. I've only received them as birthday gifts and that brings me to my next point.
2) I am obsessed with birthdays - mine and yours.
3) I use a ton of napkins.
4) I HATE unnecessary apostrophes and poor punctation. And don't get me started on your, you're, there, their and they're.
5) I am an ISTJ. This basically means I like structure, systems, loyalty, and commitment. And that I value my alone time.
6) My love language is quality time - nothing comes close.
